3 best face mists to keep you hydrated in the office

Hours in an air-conditioned office can leave skin feeling tight and looking dull. A face mist is the desk-drawer fix, and three were singled out for the job: Philosophy’s Renewed Hope in a Jar Micro-renewal Hydrating Mist, June Jacobs Neroli Hydrating Mist and First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist.

At the time, they were priced at S$42 for 117ml, S$74 for 200ml and S$25 for 59ml respectively, and each was slated for Sephora Singapore. Those prices and launch plans belong to that moment; here is what can be confirmed today.

Why an office calls for a mist

Cool air has its upsides, including comfort and focus. Skin is a different matter, because long stretches in a chilled room can leave it dehydrated and lacking radiance. A mist is the least fussy answer: no basin, no mirror ritual, just a quick spritz at your desk.

The awkwardness of spraying your face in front of colleagues is the usual objection. The case for it is that a mist both hydrates and refreshes, which helps when the afternoon drags.

Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Micro-renewal Hydrating Mist

This was the companion to the brand’s best-known moisturiser, pitched on all-day hydration and smoother-looking skin. A US retailer’s listing describes it as a facial mist that gives a dewy finish with or without makeup. It is meant to be held 10 to 12 inches from the face with the eyes closed, and used as needed through the day.

That listing cites a one-week self-assessment study of 36 women, in which 80 per cent felt their skin was hydrated with a fresh glow. It showed a 3.4 oz bottle at US$30. Current availability in Singapore could not be confirmed.

June Jacobs Neroli Hydrating Mist

The largest and priciest of the three suited readers who preferred a natural-leaning formula. Its star is neroli oil, taken from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree. The brand says the blossoms come from the south of France, and describes the mist as hydrating, refreshing and revitalising.

The brand’s own page suggests spritzing right after a shower to lock in moisture, and using it under or over makeup. It also advises drinking a sip of water while you spritz, to hydrate inside and out. Other retailers describe a blend of white, red and green tea extracts with goji berry, pomegranate and grape seed.

The brand’s website currently lists a 150ml bottle at US$48, which is smaller than the 200ml size originally featured. The old claim of being free from synthetic dyes, sulfates and fragrances could not be confirmed against current labelling, so check the bottle before buying.

First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist

The smallest pick was chosen for the handbag. At 59ml it was easy to carry, and the original write-up highlighted vitamins C, E and B5, along with an aroma of grapefruit, basil, bergamot, rosemary and sandalwood. No current source for this product turned up, so it is best treated as a pick from that time until its availability is checked with the brand or a retailer.
